Birth story.

Here's my prolonged birth story.

Short: Kairi Lilyana Mace made her debut on Friday, February 22, 2008 at 6:07PM. She weighed in at 5lbs 7oz and measured 18 inches long.

Long: I arrived at the hospital on Friday, February 22, 2008 at 6:20AM for my scheduled induction (I was induced because I was low on amniotic fluid). I spent the first half hour with my hubby Tyler and my sister Christine waiting for the nurse in the labor and delivery. At 7AM, I was hooked up to the monitor. My IV was started at 7:30AM. I was checked at 7:57AM and was only 2CM and 60-70% effaced. Kairi was between station -1 and 0. The doctor came in at 8AM and broke my water. About 3 minutes later, pitocin was started. Contractions were about 4 to 5 minutes apart and were not painful at all. About an hour or so later, the contractions started to pick up, however, they were still not painful. The nurse upped the dosage of pitocin at 9AM and then again around 11AM. The nurse came in at 11:45AM to check me. I was 3CM and 80% effaced. Kairi barely dropped to station 0. Contractions were now about 2 to 3 minutes apart and were becoming very uncomfortable but manageable. The pitocin was upped around 12pm and then again around 1PM. Contractions were really picking up. Around 1:20PM, I asked for some pain reliever. I forgot the name of the drug they gave me, but it really helped take the edge off. At 1:40, I was checked and had made very little progress. I was still 3CM but 90% effaced. Kairi didn't budge at all. She was still at station 0. The contractions were still 2 to 3 minutes apart, but were more painful. The pitocin was upped again 2PM. The contractions were now 1 to 2 minutes apart and were really painful and almost unmanageable. Around 2:30PM, I got my second dosage of pain reliever. The contractions were now really intense and had become so painful that I started crying. I was supposed to have been checked at 3:30PM, but because I was in so much pain, I decided to get an epidural. So at 3:17 the anesthesiologist came in and gave me an epidural. I was then checked at 4:45PM, and was 5CM and 90% effaced. Kairi was stubborn and decided to move back up to station -1. After 15 minutes or so, I fell asleep. I was woken up by the nurse around 5:30 to be checked. The nurse took one look down there and told me that I was ready to have a baby. The nurses then prepped me for delivery. After my legs had been placed in the stirrups, one of the nurses checked me and said that I was crowning. The doctor arrived around 5:50 and then at 5:55 I started pushing. Kairi took her first breath at 6:07PM weighing 5lbs 7oz and measuring 18 inches long.
